Schumann: Director’s Cut Available on All Platforms

A journey through Schumann’s lesser-known sound worlds — poetic, raw, and profoundly human.

With Director’s Cut, Turkish pianist Başar Can Kıvrak opens a deeply personal and visionary chapter in his artistic journey. This album presents some of Robert Schumann’s most introspective and lesser-known piano works, framed in a way that invites listeners to experience the composer’s world anew.

At the heart of the recording is the rarely performed original version of Schumann’s Piano Sonata No. 3 in F minor, Op. 14 — a five-movement structure rich in contrasts and emotional depth, offering a glimpse into the composer’s early creative impulses. Paired with the poignant Fantasiestücke, Op. 111, and the dreamlike Nachtstücke, Op. 23, the album creates a cinematic arc of introspection, turbulence, and poetic clarity.

Recorded with extraordinary attention to artistic detail over the span of three years, Director’s Cut is more than an album — it is a curatorial statement. Kıvrak approaches each work not only as a pianist, but as a storyteller, shaping the program with the care of a director assembling a personal cut of a film: revealing emotional nuance, uncovering hidden structures, and presenting familiar voices in an unfamiliar light.

Released by Ada Müzik in 2024, Director’s Cut reflects Kıvrak’s commitment to meaningful repertoire choices and long-form artistic vision. It marks the beginning of a new phase in his discography — one rooted in interpretation, depth, and the courage to reframe the canon.
